Koalas Win AAC Road Opener at Brenau

Madison Stewart had an assist in the 2-1 win

The Columbia College Koalas picked up a huge win in their AAC road opener as they took down the Brenau University Golden Tigers 2-1 in Gainesville, GA on Saturday evening.

The Koalas entered the game with a 2-0 conference record and managed to get on the board early through the form of Jordan Myers.  After a free kick, Madison Stewart's through ball found Myers and she slotted the ball past the Golden Tigers keeper for a 1-0 lead just 4:27 into the match.

After a couple of important saves from the Koalas goalkeeper, Emma Parker, Columbia managed to double their lead in the 33rd minute.  Myers took a corner which Theresa Chambers knocked towards goal, and Kayann Glass was there to apply the finish from inside the six yard box to make it 2-0.

Brenau managed to end the Koalas defensive scoreless streak in the 57th minute to cut the deficit in half, but that was all the scoring in the game as Columbia was able to repel the Golden Tigers attacks and hold on for the important conference win.

Other standout performers in the game were Jayla Pugh and Isabella Gurrieri, while Parker was tremendous in goal with a number of important saves.

Columbia travels again in their next AAC game on Wednesday, September 22nd when they face the Montreat College Cavaliers in Black Mountain, NC.
