Koalas Top Lions to Move to 4-1 in AAC
Jordan Myers had two goals and Brooke Piscitello had 2 assists vs Bryan
Jordan Myers scored both goals and Brooke Piscitello added both assists as the Columbia College Koalas beat the visiting Bryan College Lions 2-1 with a dramatic late winner in AAC action on Saturday afternoon at Younts Stadium.
Columbia entered the game with a 3-1 AAC record with their sole loss coming at the hands of the Montreat College Cavaliers, 3-1. Bryan entered with a 1-1 conference record, having lost to the same opponent 2-0, which set up the match as an evenly billed one.
The Koalas were able to jump out to an early lead in the contest as Piscitello's pass found Myers on the left side, and the newcomer took one touch before a smooth finish into the far post made it 1-0 after just 89 seconds.
The Lady Lions would respond in the 11th minute with a quality strike from 30 yards out which evened the game at one goal apiece.
Despite a healthy shot advantage throughout the game of 19-10, and having ten corners to the Lions' one, the Koalas looked set to be heading to overtime until Myers struck again.
Piscitello poked a loose ball towards the forward near the edge of the box, and after a touch to set herself up, Myers fired a fantastic half volley into the side netting from 20 yards to make it 2-1 Columbia with less than two minutes remaining. The Koalas were able to see out the rest of the match and move to 4-1 in the AAC, while the loss drops the Lions to 1-2 in the conference overall.
Myers and Piscitello had stellar performances for the Koalas, while the entire defensive unit for Columbia held the talented Lions to very few quality scoring chances.
Columbia hits the road for their next game on Wednesday, September 29th when they travel to Laurinburg, NC to face the St. Andrews University Knights at 4PM.
