Koalas Open AAC With Home Victory Over KCU

Kylie Stewart (FR) scored her first goal of the season in the win

The Columbia College Koalas picked up their third straight shutout in opening their Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) slate with a 4-0 home win against the visiting Kentucky Christian Knights.

The Koalas opened the scoring 19 minutes into the game, as Brooke Piscitello found Kianna Dodge on the left-wing and she cut inside before finishing into the far corner to make it 1-0. Incidentally, the goal was the 300th goal scored by the Koalas at Younts Stadium.

Twenty minutes later, Kayann Glass picked up her first assist of the afternoon when her through ball released Jordan Myers to beat the Knights keeper and make it 2-0 at halftime to Columbia.

After a gritty opening to the second period, Glass added her second assist in the 79th minute when she combined well with Theresa Chambers before the center back blasted one into the top corner for her second goal this week.

Tianna Roberts and Kylie Stewart then picked up their first collegiate points as Roberts' cross found Stewart, who fired home from close range to make it 4-0 with just under five minutes remaining in the match.

Columbia outshot KCU 19-5 in the game and Emma Parker picked up the win in goal with four saves, including a crucial stop with the game still poised at 1-0.

A number of Koalas put in their best performances of the season in the game, including Josie Vega, Piscitello, and Roberts.

Columbia College returns to AAC action Wednesday, September 15th when they host the Bluefield College Rams at 1:30PM at Younts Stadium.
