Lady Koala Soccer Upsets Reinhardt 1-0

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Columbia College women's soccer team put on a defensive clinic on Saturday afternoon as they shut out perennial conference powerhouse Reinhardt University (Ga.) 1-0 for their first AAC win of the season.

The big win improves the Lady Koalas to 3-3 overall and 1-2 in the conference and is arguably the biggest win in program history.

Senior defender Kylie Stewart put the Koalas up early in the 6th minute as she scored off a set piece corner kick from senior forward Jordan Myers. Myers' corner kick went to freshman midfielder Madison Wells Bunting before her deflected pass to Stewart gave the Koalas the early edge.

Reinhardt outshot CC 8-3 in the first half and then 9-4 in the second, but truly never had any quality scoring chances throughout the game as they struggled to get past the Koalas' back line. Sophomore goalkeeper Teagan Eisenring led the shutout posting six saves on all six shots on goal for her first shutout.

In the second half, the Koalas twice had shots hit the crossbar as they looked for an insurance goal with Myers and junior midfielder Kimia Hughey both had the tough luck.

Columbia will now head on the road on Wednesday to Georgia to battle the defending conference champion Truett-McConnell Bears at 6:30 pm.
