Lady Koala Tennis Knocks off Ferrum
COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Columbia College women's tennis team defeated NCAA Div. II foe, Ferrum College (Va.) 5-2 on Saturday from the Koala Courts in Columbia for their second win of the season.
The Koalas swept through the doubles winning both of the matches that were contested while also winning by default at the third line. Winning 6-4 at the top line was the team of sophomore Rachel Thompson and senior Natalia Diaz while the #2 team of senior Aniya Sims and sophomore Ana Ribeiro won 6-1 at the 2 line.
Winning singles matches were Sims at the 3 line and freshman Bayla Burgey at the 4 line. Sims won 6-0, 6-0 while Burgey won 6-0, 6-0 as well. Diaz fell 6-1, 6-0 at the top line while junior Vienne Geren fell 6-1, 6-1 at the two line. Thompson and sophomore Camryn McCutchen won by default at the 5 and 6 lines.
The Lady Koalas improved to 2-2 on the season while Ferrum drops to 0-4. The Columbia women previously lost earlier in February to ranked conference foes in #3 TWU and #7 SCAD Atlanta.
CC is back on the courts on Saturday and Sunday afternoon when the women travel up to NC to battle two Div. III schools, Salem College and Meredith College in Winston-Salem and Raleigh respectively.
