Lady Koalas Roar Past UPike Bears

PIKEVILLE, Ky. - The Columbia College women's tennis team rolled to a 6-1 conference road win over Univ. of Pikeville on Monday afternoon in central Kentucky.

The Lady Koalas improve to 6-5 overall and 2-5 in the conference and into a tie for 6th place while dropping Pikeville to 0-8 and 0-5 in AAC.

Columbia got the 1-0 lead in doubles as the No. 2 team of Natalia Diaz and Rachel Thompson won 6-2 while the #3 team of Vienne Geren and Camryn McCutchen won by default. The top doubles team of Aniya Sims and Ana Ribeiro fell 6-1 at the top line.

In singles, the Koalas received wins from Ribeiro, Sims and Thompson while Geren and freshman Bayla Burgey won by default at the 5 and 6 lines respectively. Ribeiro won 6-3, 6-2 at the #2 spot while Sims shut out her foe 6-0, 6-0 at #3 and Thompson dominated 6-1, 6-1 at number four.

The Koala women will next head to Swannanoa, NC to battle Montreat College on Friday at 10:00 am at Asheville Christian Academy.
