Lady Koala Tennis Falls on the Road at Montreat
SWANNANOA, N.C. - The Columbia College men's and women's tennis teams each fell in intense conference matches on the road at Montreat College up in the NC mountains on Friday. The men fell 6-1 while women were edged 4-3.
The Ladies clinched the doubles point as the top team of senior Aniya Sims and sophomore Ana Ribeiro won 6-4 while the #3 team of freshman Bayla Burgey and junior Vienne Geren won by default. The #2 team of senior Natalia Diaz and sophomore Rachel Thompson fell 1-6 at the two line.
During singles play, however, the Lady Koalas dropped all four contested matches while Thompson and Burgey each won by default at the 5 and 6 lines, respectively. Diaz fell 6-1, 6-2 at the top line while Ribeiro lost 6-1, 6-2 at #2 singles. Sims then went down 6-2, 6-1 at #3 before Geren lost 6-4, 6-1 at #4.
The Koala women fall to 6-6 overall and 2-6 in the conference while Montreat improved to 4-11 overall and 3-5 in the conference. The women will next host Div. III Brevard College on Friday, April 17 at 3:00 pm.
