Women's Indoor Track Competes at Camel City Meet

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Columbia College women's indoor track and field team competed at the Camel City Sprint and Distance Meets at the JDL Fasttrack in NC in the mostly NCAA D-1 and D-2 meet.

In the Weight Throw on Friday, junior Doreshia McAllister led the Koalas by posting the 25th best mark of the season with her throw of 16.15 meters to place 7th overall of 42 with only Div. I athletes placing ahead of her.

Then, in the 3000 meter racewalk on Friday, Columbia had four ladies place in the top 10 led by senior Jennyfer Vigueras placing 4th in 22:54 for the 21st best time in the NAIA. Freshman Micaela Cross followed with a time of 25:06 to come in 5th while sophomore Amelia Nifong was 6th in 25:24. In the 600 meters, freshman Annsley Howle led the team placing 13th in 1:48 while freshman Shakayla Burroughs was 14th in 1:51. 

Freshman Sharetta Jones then placed 23rd of 34 in the 400 meters in 1:02 while sophomore Tylashia Alston was 33rd of 68 in the 200 meters in a time of 26.6 seconds. Freshman Dara Gray was also 35th in the 200 in 26.67 seconds. Gray was also 43rd of 75 in the 60 meters in a time of 8.05 seconds.

Inn the 800 meters on Saturday, the Koalals were led by freshman Aja Rushing placing 38th of 60 in 2:35 while Howle was 42nd in 2:38. 

During the field events on Saturday, Columbia had junior Azia Holmes placing 31st in the Shot Put with a mark of 10.32 meters (33 ft) while freshman Chenoa Haygood was 24th of 33 in the Triple Jump in 10.57 meters in the mostly D-2 and D-1 meet.

The Women will next go to their last chance meet, the Tryon Mid-Winter Invitational, next weekend in Tryon, NC near UNC-Asheville on Feb. 13-14 to try and qualify for the AAC Indoor Tournament and/or NAIA National tournament.
