Indoor Track Teams Compete at Last Chance Meet in Tryon, NC

MILL SPRING, N.C. - The Columbia College men's and women's Indoor Track and Field team competed in a "Last Chance" meet on Friday and Saturday at the mostly Div. II Tryon Mid-Winter Invite near Asheville, NC as some remaining Koalas looked to book a spot at this coming week's conference meet and next month's national indoor meet. There were also a few Div. I teams present as well.

Freshman Shakayla Burroughs led the women placing 10th in the 600 meters in a time of 1:50 on Friday while junior Guruveer Jhaj was 48th in the Men's Weight Throw with a mark of 10.5 meters (34.7 ft). Freshman Darius Otero then finished 28th in the Men's Triple Jump later Friday with a mark of 12.08 meters (39.5 ft) while freshman Chenoa Haygood was 13th of 28 in the women's Triple Jump with a mark of 10.67 meters (35 ft). Freshman field athlete Jer'Niya Alston also placed 27th out of 61 in the Shot Put Friday evening with a mark of 10.37 meters (34 ft).

On Saturday during the track events, Columbia was led by graduate senior Owen Jensen placing an impressive 3rd out of 21 in the 3000 meters in 9:10 while freshman Alissa McCann was 15th of 25 in 11:40 in the women's 3K. Sophomore Corey Liggins then led the CC men in the 400 meters placing 41st in 54.4 seconds while Jayden Young finished 46th in the 200 meters in 23.9 seconds.

During the Men's Long Jump on Saturday, sophomore Jayden Young was 35th at 6.21 meters (20.5 ft) while Otero was 52nd in the LJ at 5.8 meters. In the women's Long Jump, CC was led by the duo of sophomore Jayla Graham and C. Haygood as each placed 11th and 12th overall out of 46 with Graham's mark at 5.4 M (17.8 ft) and Haygood at 5.37 meters.

In the men's Shot Put, CC was led by G. Jhaj placing 57th at 10.58 meters while freshman Amon Moise was right behind at 10.24 meters. Finally, in the women's weight throw on Saturday, senior Hali Doctor finished 25th of 50 with a throw of 12.1 meters (nearly 40 ft) while the sophomore duo of Zulma Carcamo and Kezia Jones were 34th and 35th. Carcamo posted a mark of nearly 11.1 meters (36.5 ft) while Jones threw it 10.93 meters. Junior Sia Hooker also placed 38th at 10.66 meters.

The indoor track teams will next be competing in the AAC Indoor Conference Meet on Thursday and Friday in Winston-Salem, NC at the JDL Fast Track.
