Women's Track & Field Opens Outdoor Season in Myrtle Beach

RESULTS

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Columbia College track and field teams opened their outdoor season competing at the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge over the weekend with the men placing 13th out of 26 schools (10th among non-D1) while the women finished 11th of 27 (8th among non Div. 1 schools).

In the Sprints, the Koalas were led by sophomore Tylashia Alston in the 400 meters placing 14th overall out of 53 (8th among non-D1) in a time of 1:00.9 while freshman Sharetta Jones was 20th in 1:01.7. In the 100 meters, sophomore Faith Eugene and freshman Dara Gray finished in a tie for 18th out of 80 in 12.55 seconds while Kwamecia Marks was 30th in 12.87 seconds and Jayla Graham 32nd in 12.9 seconds. Myikayla Howard was also 41st in 13.1 seconds.

In the 200 meters, D. Gray finished 25th of 77 in 26.5 seconds while J. Graham was right behind in 27th in 26.64 seconds. K. Marks was then 35th in 27.1 while M. Howard was 44th of 77 in 27.7 seconds in the 200m.

In the Distance races, freshman Alissa McCann led the women placing 1st in the 800 meter Open division in 2:30 while fellow freshman Annsley Howle finished 21st in 2:36 and freshman Aja Rushing 22nd in 2:37. Then, in the 1500 meters, senior Juliana Gonzalez and junior Avarose Buccino each set personal bests to place 14th and 17th overall out of 38 with Gonzalez running a time of 5:06 and Buccino a 5:10.

In the Relays, the Koala women finished 5th of 14 (3rd among non D1) in the 4x200 in 1:45 on Friday, before setting the school record in the 4x800 later Friday in 10:13 to place 6th out of 10 (1st among non D1) featuring A. Howle, J. Gonzalez, A. Buccino, and A. Rushing. The 4x200 meter team, that defeated local rival Benedict in the race, featured F. Eugene, K. Marks, M. Howard, and J. Graham while the two relay teams combined for 9 team points.

The Lady Koalas also competed in six field events over the weekend including four throwing and two jumping. Leading the women in the Triple Jump were freshman Chenoa Haygood and junior Makayla Blango. Blango palced 4th out of 12 in the Collegiate divison at 11.24 meters while Haygood was 1st in the Open division at 10.76 meters for a personal best. In the Long Jump, Graham finished 14th (6th among non D1) in 5.22 meters (17 ft) while Blango was 25th in 4.97 meters and Haygood 32nd of 60 at 4.84 meters.

In the throws, junior Doreshia McAllister led the way placing 6th in the Hammer Throw with a mark of 44.14 meters (144 ft) while junior Jada Robinson set a personal best at 36.4 meters to place 23rd with Sia Hooker also setting a personal-best at 35.1 meters to place 28th out of 47.

In the Discus, junior QuSondra Wideman finished 19th overall out of 55 with a throw of 34 meters (111 ft) while Zulma Carcamo was 34th at 30.18 meters (99 ft). In the Javelin, CC was led by Azia Holmes placing 30th out of 55 with a throw of 25.5 meters (83 ft). Finally, in the Shot Put, CC was led by A. Holmes again placing 24th of 55 at 10.15 meters (33 ft).

The women's outdoor track team will next be competing on March 20-21 at the Montreat College Open in the NC mountains.
