Koala Volleyball Splits Final Regular Tilt at Home
The Columbia College Volleyball team took to the court at home for the final time in the regular season. The Koalas started off Friday night with bang, resulting in an efficient 3 – 0 win over the Montreat Cavaliers. Scores were 25-18, 26-24, 25-12. Columbia jumped out early and often in the first set racing out to big lead and never looking back. The 2nd set was a nip and tuck battle but the Koalas responded each time going point for point and closing it out 26-24. Flexing their muscle in the 3rd set, The Koalas again ran out to a big lead and sustained it through the set, cruising to 25-12 set win and the match.
On Saturday versus Milligan, honoring the team's lone senior, setter Melissa Dixon, Columbia dropped a tightly contested 3-1 setback to the Buffs. Milligan proved strong early in jumping out to 7-2 lead to start the match and continued dominance in the first set winning 25-16. The Koalas responded in taking the 2nd set 25-22 to level the match 1-1. The 3rd set remained close throughout with Milligan separating at the end 25-20. Columbia again responded in the 4th set but with a 19-14 lead, Milligan roared back to tie the score at 19 and moving on winning the 4th set 26-24 and the match.
Columbia now sets its sights on the Appalachian Athletic Conference Playoff tournament this week in Kingsport, TN. The Koalas will be the #5 seed in the 8 team tournament and will square off against #4 seed Milligan in the quarterfinal on Thursday November 12.
