Volleyball Rallies to Knock off Bryan in 4 Sets

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Columbia College volleyball team battled back to notch a big four-set, 3-1 win over conference foe Bryan College (TN) at home Friday evening from the Godbold Center.

Bryan won the first set by a score of 25-22 before the Koalas held off the Lions to win the second set 25-23 and then the third set 27-25. BC got out to a quick 10-4 lead in the fourth but the Koalas put together a huge rally going on a match-ending 21-10 run to take the fourth set, 25-20. CC totaled 57 kills while hitting .241 while amassing 45 digs. 

The Koalas tallied 13 kills in the first set followed by 16 in the second, an impressive 17 kills in the third and 11 more in the fourth while hitting .304 in the final set. 

Senior middle blocker Destiny Brown set a new career-high of 8 solo blocks along with 13 kills to hit .429 while sophomore OH Tamia Fripp set a career-high with 19 kills hitting .378 along with nine digs.

Junior OH Maranda Bird also had a good night posting 10 kills and 7 digs to hit .240 while the freshmen right-side hitting duo of Lilly Almada and Kameron Turner combined for 13 kills

Columbia was also led by junior setter Debra Shephard in assists with 29 along with 3 aces and 3 digs while sophomore libero Katie Roberts posted the most digs with 11. Senior setter Leticia Assen put up 22 assists, 8 digs and an ace.

Columbia improves their record to 3-15 overall and 3-6 in the AAC while Bryan falls to 2-23 and 1-8 in the AAC. CC is now in a four-way tie for 9th place in the conference.

The Lady Koalas are right back in action on their home court Saturday morning when they take on Tennessee Wesleyan at 11:00 am.
