Women's XC Finishes 14th at Louisville Classic
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Columbia College women's cross country team competed in the Louisville Classic over the weekend running in the 5K Silver Division along with other numerous NAIA, D-2 and Club teams. The Columbia women ended up finishing 14th overall as a team among 36 schools.
NCAA D1 Austin Peay (TN) won the meet followed by D-2s Glenville State (WV), Mercyhurst (PA) and NAIA William Carey (MS). The Koalas finished an impressive 6th among NAIA schools in the meet and were only a few points out of 11th place overall.
Senior Juliana Gonzalez finished 39th overall running a time of 20:38 in the 3.2 mile race while sophomore Avarose Buccino was second on the team and 95th overall out of 205 in a time of 21:56. Freshman Aja Rushing then came next placing 105th in 22:08 while senior Jennyfer Vigueras was 121st in 22:45. Freshman Alissa McCann then finished up the scoring placing 125th in 22:51.
Individually, freshman Ellie Fisher finished 173rd in 25:46 while fellow freshman Micaela Cross came in 193rd in 28:28.
The cross country team will next be in action on Oct. 18 at the USC-Upstate Invitational in Spartanburg.
