SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Columbia College Men's Soccer team are on the verge of clinching a postseason spot in the upcoming Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament after playing to a scoreless draw with rival Spartanburg Methodist College during Tuesday's matchup up the road in Spartanburg.
Both teams created scoring opportunities throughout the 90 minutes, but neither side could find the back of the net in the 0-0 draw. The tightly contested battle saw each team come close to a breakthrough goal. Columbia had two shots hit the crossbar, while SMC narrowly missed on a pair of chances that sailed just over the crossbar in the second half.
Columbia's senior goalkeeper Mathias Gravesen recorded three saves on all three shots on goal while CC outshot the Pioneers 4-3 in the first half. However, SMC outshot the Koalas 7-4 in the second half and 10-8 overall. The Koalas' forward pairing of Jacob Madeiros and Natneal Micheal tallied two shots apiece.
