Columbia College Hosts Special Olympics
The Columbia College athletic department hosted the Special
Olympics of South Carolina Saturday, April 25th. Athletes of all
ages were on hand to participate in two one hour sessions along
side Columbia College athletes in basketball, soccer, softball,
tennis, and volleyball.
In just the first year of Columbia College and Special Olympics
partnering together, athletes enjoyed sharing skills and the
pleasure of one another. Freshman volleyball player Rachael Steiner
said, “I have been looking forward to today all spring. I
want to do this every year because we had so much fun.”
Special Olympics South Carolina offers year-round sports training
and athletic competition in 22 Olympic-type sports to children and
adults with intellectual disabilities: Alpine Skiing, Aquatics,
Athletics (Track & Field), Badminton, Basketball, Bocce,
Bowling, Cheerleading, Equestrian, Figure Skating, Golf,
Gymnastics, Powerlifting, Roller Skating, Soccer, Sailing,
Softball, Speed Skating, Table Tennis, Team Handball, Tennis and
Volleyball.
The SOSC (Special Olympics of South Carolina) 2009 Summer Games
will be held May 1-3 in Columbia, SC.
