Basketball Defeats Nationally Ranked Bluefield

COLUMBIA, SC - The Fighting Koalas defeated nationally ranked Bluefield today 63-52.

The recently nationally ranked Lady Rams struggled to find their rhythm as they found themselves in foul trouble throughout the entire game. Columbia captured their first conference win with four key players having double digits on the day.

Sophomore guard, Kirby Norris scored 11 points on the day. Earlier in the week Norris put up 29 points against AAC opponent Milligan and helped lead Columbia to the win today. Both Shonta McNeal and Nikki Craig put up a combined 22 points to help The Fighting Koalas keep the lead toward the end of the second half. Four of McNeal's points were crucial free throws which pushed Columbia's lead to 11 with less than one minute remaining in regulation. Senior, Krystle Remigio led the Fighting Koala offense today with 14 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists.

Head Coach Maria Audas commented on the win, "Our team was hungry for this win. Our team played with heart, determination, and poise."

Columbia looks ahead as they hit the road to take on Montreat College on January 25th.
