Basketball Opens Conference Play

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Fighting Koala basketball team opened conference play tonight against the Montreat Lady Cavaliers. Picked to finish 3rd according to the coaches pre-season poll Montreat didn't dissapoint as they defeated Columbia 81-45.

Columbia's offense struggled from both the field and the free throw line only shooting 50% from the line and 18 of 60 from the field. Montreat looked strong as their fast break offense generated 38 points in the second half. The Lady Cavaliers leading scorer was Ashley Chavira who had 18 points on the night.

The Fighting Koalas now move to 4-6 overall and 0-1 in AAC play. Columbia looks to grab their first conference win on December 3rd as they travel to Bryan College in Dayton, TN.
