Basketball Opens 2013 at Home with Win
COLUMBIA, S.C.- Columbia College Fighting Koalas basketball team defeated the Point University Lady Skyhawks at home today 61-47. This marks Columbia's first win in Conference play.
The Columbia College basketball team played its most physical match of the season against Point and came out on top. Breaking their losing streak and grabbing their first Appalachain Athletic Conference win so far this season the Fighting Koalas looked ready to take on the second half of their 2012-13 season.
Point University put Columbia in early foul trouble and was lead by Laquita Rogers the only Lady Skyhawk who saw double digits and pushed Point to be within 2 points at the end of the first half 25-27. Rogers ended the game with a total of 16 points.
Leading the way for Columbia was Deidre Price as she again reached double digits and turned it on the second half with a total of 19 points. Junior gaurd, Kirby Norris grabbed her first double-double of this season with a total of 11 points and 11 rebounds for the day.
Columbia looks ahead to middle of the conference contender, Tennessee Wesleyan this Tuesday with a game time of 6:30 p.m.
