Columbia College Basketball Signs Briana Johnson

COLUMBIA, S.C. -  Columbia College basketball welcomes their latest addition to the 2013-14 Koalas’ basketball team. Hometown recruit, BriAna Johnson, signed with the team officially on Wednesday, March 6th.

Johnson, a senior at local Ridgeview High School in Columbia, averaged an impressive double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds per game. Coach Audas, who has been recruiting Johnson since her Junior year. One of the first recruits to visit and tryout this year, Johnson then caught the attention of her teammates with her smooth ball handling and floor control.  Multiple visits between Ridgeview High and Columbia College made it apparent to both parties that a natural fit was forming.

After completing a successful senior year on the court, Johnson solidified that decision. “I decided to join Columbia College because the academics, coaching staff, and the program fit me and what I want in a collegiate athletic experience,” said Johnson. "BriAna has exactly what it takes to succeed here in our program. She is a determined individual, which will serve her well on the court and in the classroom,” agreed Audas.

Ridgeview varsity head coach, Coach Seals, relied on Johnson to handle the ball but also provide a post entry option and wing scoring option for his squad during the 2012-13 season. Johnson, a natural point guard, used her flexibility to adjust and contribute on her team night in and night out. “Columbia College is getting a great player and an exceptional young lady,” said Seals at the signing.

"BriAna brings a passion and love for the game of basketball that our teams needs and from which they can feed. Her athletic ability is impressive, but it is the combination of her fundamentals and IQ that make her a great addition to this ball club. Again, though, her focus in the classroom and her high character will be what truly allows her to succeed here,” concluded Audas.
