Fighting Koalas Basketball Can't Hold On
COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Columbia College basketball team couldn't hold on as the Lady Warriors of Southern Wesleyan took over in the second half eventually defeating Columbia 85-75.
The Fighting Koalas were hungry for another win after the loss to Bob Jones University and kept it close. Freshman guard, Jennifer Giles put up 12 points in the first half and finished the game with 18 total points, 6 assists, and 4 rebounds. Southern Wesleyan's Ashley Cooper was brilliant in the second half with an impressive double-double with 22 points and 14 rebounds.
Columbia made a push in the second half to come within three points with 3 others besides Giles in double digits. Kirby Norris posted 12 points. Senior Nikki Craig pushed late in the second half and ended the game with 15 points and 7 rebounds. Deidre Price rounded out the top four scorers with 12 points and 8 rebounds. The Fighting Koalas struggled from the free throw line and couldn't gain the lead to secure the win.
The Fighting Koalas face off against Division II institution Newberry College before taking a break for the holidays. Catch their first home game of 2013 on January 5th against Point University, tip off is at 6:30 p.m.
