Columbia Captures Win on Family Day
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Fighting Koalas tennis team celebrated family day yesterday with a win over AAC opponent Bluefield College grabbing the victory with a final score of 7-2.
This is the first conference win for the Columbia College tennis program while competing in the AAC. Columbia started the match down 2-0 due to an athletic injury and came back with a strong showing taking both doubles matches. Raven Fair and Haley Mathias competed at no.1 doubles winning 8-6 and the no. 2 doubles pair of Abby Stevenson and Mara Reiss dominated their match, winning 8-0.
The Fighting Koalas tennis team was successful in their singles matches as they swept all 5 matches with the following scores:
1. Raven Fair: 6-3, 6-0
2. Abby Stevenson: 6-1, 6-1
3. Lydia Royals: 6-0, 6-2
4. Haley Mathias: 7-6 (4), 6-1
5. Mara Reiss: 6-0, 6-1
Head Coach Lindsey Hughes was pleased with her team’s performance, “I’m proud of my team’s performance today. It’s hard to start a match down 2-0 and they competed well today.” The Columbia College tennis team looks ahead as they travel to Wesleyan College this upcoming Friday.
