Golf Opens at Converse College Invitational
SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Columbia College Women’s Golf Team completed their first tournament of the season on Monday, September 17th, by finishing 5th at the Carolina Country Club in Spartanburg, SC.
The Converse Invite, hosted by Converse College,
featured Converse, Columbia, Southern Wesleyan, Mars Hill College,
Spartanburg Methodist, Pfeiffer University, and Benedict
College.
On a wet course and in rainy conditions, the
Fighting Koalas struggled to find consistency in the programs first
ever tournament. Devyn Stewart led the way for Columbia, shooting
an 87 to finish 9th overall. Alivia Seely
(102), Amber Ratza (103), and Erika Christiansen (107) also scored,
combining for a team score of 403 for the Koalas, good enough to
finish ahead of fellow first year program SWU and local rival
Benedict College.
Next up for the golf team is the AAC Fall Invite
hosted by Tennessee Wesleyan, which is the first half of the two
tournaments that combine to get All-Conference teams for the AAC.
The tournament will be Monday September
24th and Tuesday September
25th at the Springbrook Country Club in
Niota, TN.
