Koalas Pick Up One in Rome
The Columbia College volleyball and soccer teams traveled to Rome, GA over the weekend to take on Shorter College and Berry College. The only win of the trip came when the volleyball team captured their first win over Berry College since joining the SSAC.
The Fighting Koalas soccer team did not have their strongest showing against Shorter College Friday afternoon, dropping the contest 7-0. Shorter's Candace Edwards and Pauline Van Der Henst were too much for Columbia, each scoring two goals in the game. Saturday, the Koalas turned in a stronger effort, but the result was the same with a 3-1 defeat to Berry College. The Koalas only goal came from Samantha Schwartz in the first half. Columbia played mostly on the defensive end for the game and were outshot 30-1.
The Volleyball team also struggled against second ranked Shorter College on Friday night. Columbia could not match the play at the net in the 3-0 defeat, 25-23, 25-17 , 25-19. Freshman Aarika Munro recorded a match high 13 kills in the defeat. The Koalas rebounded Saturday to defeat Berry College 3-1, 23-25, 25-23, 25-15, 25-22. Sophomore Jennifer Monroe carried the Koalas with 15 kills and a .464 hitting percentage.
