Columbia Soccer Picks Up Zolman and Faruqui

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Columbia College soccer program announced it's first 2 members of the 2012 recruiting class, Alexa Zolman and Haley Faruqui.

Alexa Zolman is from Wichita, KS, and  moved to Wilson, NC in 2008.  Zolman has been a starter on the varsity team at Community Christian School since her freshman year, in which she won the NCISAA 1-A State Championship.  Zolman was awarded the Brittany Sportsmanship Award at the Brittany Showcase twice, in 2009 and 2011.  In addition, she has been named to the NCISSA 1-A All State Team (2011), NCSCA All Region (2010) and Carolina Christian Conference All Conference twice (2010 and 2011).  In club soccer, Zolman competed with the 92 Wilson Explosion team that won the 2010 State Kepner Cup.  In the upcoming 2012 Spring Season, Alexa will be a co-captain as a senior and has competed in basketball for three years at Community Christian School.

   

Hayley Faruqui is the second member of the Columbia College Women's Soccer recruiting class for 2012 from Madison, AL.  Faruqui has played all over the country and the world in her soccer experience, including spending her middle school years in South Carolina.  More recently, Faruqui started as a sophomore and junior on her high school team in Germany, a team which earned back to back European Championships.  Individually, she was named 1st team all conference in both 2010 and 2011, as well as being named as an "All European Player" in 2011.   

Head Coach Josh Kiper commented, "I'm excited to see what Alexa and Hayley will bring to our program. I know each one of them are strong skill players with the drive and determination to succeed."
