Soccer Opens Conference in Weekly Recap

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Fighting Koalas soccer program opened conference play this week as they faced newcomers Point University and the Montreat Lady Cavaliers.

Columbia grabbed their first conference win of the season on Wedensday against the Lady Skyhawks of Point University with a final score of 3-1. The Fighting Koalas struggled in the first half to generate offense even though they produced 11 shots on goal with only one finding the back of the net by senior, Heather Moore. Columbia came out in the second half and pushed the lead to 3-1 as Jessica Martinez scored the last 2 goals for The Fighting Koalas solidifying their first conference win of the season.

Saturday, the Fighting Koalas faced the Lady Cavaliers of Montreat College and battled to move to 2-0 in AAC conference play but came up short. Although Columbia had 16 shots on goal and put pressure on Montreat's defense they couldn't break through and the game ended in a 0-0 tie after 2 overtime periods.

The games on the week push Columbia to 6-2-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the Appalachin Athletic Conference. The Fighting Koalas look ahead to face Reinhardt this Wednesday at Younts Soccer Stadium. Action starts at 4:30 p.m.
