Volleyball finishes the AAC conference Season
COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Fighting Koala volleyball team wrapped up their 2012 AAC season last night in a 5 set loss to Union College. Columbia now sits in 6th place and waits to see who they will face in the first round of the AAC tournament set to start next Wednesday.
Columbia finished the last week of the season with a record of 4-1 with wins over Reinhardt, Point, and St. Andrews. Leading the way offensively for the Fighting Koalas are middles Shelby Foster and Caitlin Brickley. Foster tallied 7 kills, 1 error, on 14 attempts against the Lady Eagles of Reinhardt and continues to lead the team in blocks per set. Brickley, who recently grabbed AAC hitter of the week added to her already impressive hitting percentage as she hit .464 in last nights loss against the Bulldogs, talling 15 kills, 2 errors, on 28 attempts.
Head Coach Katie Welsh commented on the team's perforamce, "The team was extremely composed last night and have are hungry to pull an upset in the first round of the tournament. It should be interesting to see how the conference standings end up with things being so close."
Columbia has one regular season game left against Truett-McConnell this Saturday in Georgia. Currently the volleyball program stands at 18-10 overall and 10-8 in AAC conference play.
