Columbia Goes 4-0 on Weekend

CENTRAL, S.C. - The Fighting Koalas are one step closer to earning a trip to the SSAC tournament after a 4-0 weekend against Emmanuel College and Southern Wesleyan University.

Friday, Columbia swept Emmanuel College 6-1 and 9-0.  They were led by strong performances from senior Symone Nettles and freshman Brittany Barr.  Nettles homered in each game of the series pushing her career total of homeruns to 4 and batting average to .333 on the season.  Barr, who pitched in all four games and earned four wins over the weekend, pitched her first career shutout against Emmanuel.

Columbia continued their road trip and strong play at Southern Wesleyan University on Saturday. The Fighting Koalas swept the Warriors winning 9-8 and 4-3. Behind the pitching of Barr who entered in relief, Columbia earned 3 runs in their last at bat to come from behind and steal a 9-8 victory. Game two of the series went into extra innings as Columbia's Sarah Gibson hit a walk off homerun to left-center to give Columbia the 4-3 win.

The road trip pushes the Fighting Koalas to 10-8 in the SSAC East and a strong edge of the fifth and final spot for the tournament.

Columbia College will be at home this weekend against Truett-McConnell and Breanu University.
