SSAC Tournament Highlights
COLUMBUS, GA - The Fighting Koalas softball team ended their season this week with their second straight appearance in post season play at the SSAC conference tournament. Columbia College grabbed the fifth seed and faced West SSAC opponents Faulkner University and University of Mobile.
Columbia struggled against both teams losing 0-14 to the Lady Eagles of Faulkner and 2-13 in five innings against Mobile. Still a young team, the Fighting Koalas recieved recognition for a very competitive season and will be returning a veteran roster for 2012.
The SSAC recognized softball team members for making the All-Academic team, Champion of Character team, and All-Division team.
All-Academic team members included: sophomore catcher Jordan Atkinson, junior outfielder Brittany Bendt, sophomore second basemen Andrea Coker, and starting second basemen Sarah Gibson.
Brittany Bendt also recieved the honor of representing Columbia College as she was named to the Musco Lighting Champion of Character team. Team members are selected because they represent the five core values of the Champion of Character iniative adopted by the NAIA.
Lastly, junior Brittany Koester was named to the SSAC All-Division team. Koester had an exceptional year for the Fighting Koalas at the plate with a .336 batting avgerage and a .541 slugging percentage. Koester represented Columbia in 48 games and lead her team with 6 homeruns on the season.
