Softball Starts Off the Season at Home

COLUMBIA, S.C. -  Though the first pitch of the season hasn’t been thrown, Columbia College’s softball team looks to make noise in its home opener. The Fighting Koala’s look to compete against two of their future conference opponents: Montreat College and Virginia Intermont in their home opening weekend.  Returning 17 players and coming off of a 9-33, 2009-2010 season, Columbia looks to start off their 2010-2011 season 4-0.

With the addition of 4 solid true freshmen, Coach James Morrison has high hopes for his team. At the end of last season, many of Columbia College’s own were named to All-Conference Teams and All-Freshman teams. Leading the infield Sarah Gibson, who was named to the All Freshman Team for 2009-2010, returns and hopes to improve on her impressive .913 fielding percentage at second base. Junior Kacie Davenport returns and after leading Columbia in home runs, RBI’s, and batting average.

Without graduating any players, Columbia Softball is ready to open their 2010-2011 season this Saturday, February 12th with a double header starting @ 3:00 p.m. at Sutton Softball Field.
