Softball Wins Weekend Double Header
CLEVELAND, GA - The Fighting Koalas swept the Truett-McConnell Lady Bears in an impressive double header on Friday, March 25th at Truett-McConnell. Coming off a heartbreaking loss to Brevard College, Columbia rebounded against their SSAC conference opponent, sweeping the series 3-1 and 5-3.
The first game of the series saw the Lady Bears jump out to an early 1-0 lead in the third inning. Truett-McConnell remained scoreless after the third facing the pitching of, Brittany Barr, who pitched 7 innings and faced 28 batters only giving up 1 run. Columbia broke open in the 6th inning against Truett-McConnell's pitcher and drove in 3 runs to take the lead 3-1. The Fighting Koalas went on to win the first game of the series 3-1.
The second game of the series saw an almost come from behind win from the home team. Columbia had another impressive 3 run inning in the 4th with junior Brittany Koester leading the Fighting Koalas at the plate. Columbia had the lead at 5-1 going into the bottom of the 7th inning when the Lady Bears made their last effort to tie the game and push it into extra innings. The Fighting Koalas closed the series behind the pitching of, Alexis Lucas, and went on to win 5-4.
The Fighting Koalas softball team is 4-4 overall in the SSAC conference and will reschedule their double-header against Brenau University that was orignally sheduled to take place on Saturday, March 26th.
